Prize for Lando Janssen

Best clinical abstract award for Lando Janssen

Lando Prijs 4 Oct 2018

During the annual John Goldman Conference on Chronic Myeloid Leukemia in Miami, Lando Janssen received the best clinical abstract award for his abstract entitled "Skeletal muscle toxicity associated with tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia". For this study, Lando assessed skeletal muscle function in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia and found that tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy was not associated with changes in mitochondrial density or function. However, he found that patients on tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy showed increased muscle fatigue upon repetitive quadriceps stimulation and that there are differences in muscle contractile properties between patients with and without muscle symptoms. Currently, Lando is also investigating other side effects of tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy.
