Thessa Hilgenkamp

The overall aim of the research of Thessa Hilgenkamp is to understand and improve physical activity and fitness in individuals with intellectual disabilities. Next to epidemiological and intervention research on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, she studies the physical prerequisites to be physically active in this specific population. This involves motor control, autonomic regulation and exercise physiology. In collaboration with her home university Erasmus MC University Medical Center in Rotterdam and the University of Illinois at Chicago she is currently conducting her research project funded by an European Union Marie Sklodowska Curie International Outgoing Fellowship on the autonomic response to exercise in individuals with intellectual disabilities at the Radboudumc.
