Omar Tutakhel obtained his MSc degree in Biomedical Sciences with two majors in Human Pathobiology and Toxicology at the Radboud University Medical Center in 2013. During his PhD project at the department of Physiology, Omar studied the novel molecular and functional implications of the NaCl cotransporter in hypertension by using cells, animal models as well as samples of human origin, such as urinary exosomes. Additionally, his PhD research demonstrated that urinary exosomes can be used as a non-invasive tool to guide anti-hypertensive therapy in patients with hypertension and may help to individualize anti-hypertensive treatment. Subsequently, as postdoctoral researcher, Omar is dedicated to clinically utilize urinary exosomes as a non-invasive biomarker for a variety of (patho)physiological conditions.
